Gun Enthusiasts should be aware that HR 308 has been proposed and introduced into the House of Representatives, a bill that would limit the size all gun magazines to ten (10) rounds. The bill was introduced by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D. – N.Y.) and 57 Democrat cosponsors, is entitled the “Large Capacity Feeding Device Act”. It would criminalize the transfer and possession of gun magazines that can hold over 10 rounds of ammunition.
Make no mistake, this yet another attempt by liberal, anti-gun extremists to exploit the recent tragedy in Arizona to curtail our Second Amendment rights with their ever present incrementalism. Their favorite technique that is designed to take small steps toward their overall goal of banning guns outright. As outlined in our earlier article “Our Second Amendment Rights In Jeopardy“, this tactic is their favorite method of gradually chipping away at Gun Enthusiasts right to bear arms as protected by the Constitution.
Granted, the Constitution says nothing about the size of magazines our guns can have, but it is implicit that our right to bear these arms is for us to be able to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government. If that tyranny ever comes at us with machine guns, how effective will we be with six shooters, or even ten rounds?
Unfortunately, no criminal with the intent to use a gun to commit a crime is going to be concerned with whether the magazine in the gun is of legal size. In fact, they would obviously prefer a larger magazine to give them an advantage over others who would have fewer rounds with which to protect themselves. This measure will only make millions of law abiding citizens, who have owned guns for years with no intent of ever committing an atrocious act, criminals.
This bill is supported by at least nine (9) extremist anti-gun groups whereas the only groups who are currently opposing the bill are the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America. It is going to be up to all of us to contact our Representatives and urge them to oppose this bill. Otherwise, our silence will only confirm our acceptance of losing yet some more of our Liberty.
