Operation GunWalker Spawns New Gun Control Legislation

In two previous posts I have been warning that the primary reason Obama would commit treason such as he has with Operation Gun Walker (or Fast and Furious) and arm Mexican Drug lords, was so he would have reason to try to pass more gun control legislation.   Well today I hear that the liberal democrats in Congress are planning to introduce new gun control legislation today.

In an article by Katie Pavlich for the The Town Hall, she claims that several Democrats announced yesterday that they are planning to introduce new legislation today that is designed to “keep high powered firearms out of the hands of dangerous criminals, including the Mexican Drug Cartels”.  However, the legislation which is called the “Stop Gun Trafficking and Strengthen Law Enforcement Act”, will do no more than punish law abiding citizens and trample our Second Amendment Rights yet again.

Excuse me?!  It was the Obama Administration that allowed the drug cartels to freely purchase the “high powered firearms” in the first place.  The FBI and ATF all but forced the local gun sellers to complete the transactions against their own objections. Obama even funded the operations with money from the stimulus bills.  Problem is, he was hoping we wouldn’t find out about it.

And just as we predicted, here come the liberals with marching orders from President Obama, using it as a reason to gin up support for more gun control laws, with bills in hand. No gun control law is going to keep firearms out of the hands of the Mexican Drug lords, or any other criminal for that matter.  In fact, there is another blogger who has it stated another way:

“There are more than 22,399 restrictive gun laws in force. Of those, not even one has ever reduced crime.  In fact, crime has increased after each of these laws, and the amount depends on the severity and level of enforcement of the law.”

And it especially doesn’t matter how many gun laws we have if the Federal Government is willing to break them their selves to push a political agenda.  This must be what President Obama meant when he comforted anti gun members of his own party by saying, “we are working under the radar” on new measures.

House Representative Carolyn McCarthy who authored other gun control legislation earlier this year, is joined by Elijah Cummings, Carolyn B. Mahoney, to lead this new push.  And it will be a push in which they spare no effort to get it passed and signed.

It is time to contact your representatives and let them know you’re dissatisfaction with the legislation.

Obama Culpable to Funding Project Gunrunner

The United States Justice Department has uncovered evidence that the Obama Administration funded the Project Gunrunner scandal (Fast and Furious project) through the Stimulus Bills.  In an earlier post we noted how Federal agents pressured bonafide gun dealers in border states to allow unscrupulous gun transactions to be completed against the better judgement of the dealers, under the watchfull eye of the Federal agents.

In addition to agents turning their heads and looking the other way as Mexican Drug Cartels purchased guns in America, Stimulus money was paying for the illegal activity.  Justice.org has located on page 96 of a report on this program, 2009, February, the Recovery Act signed into law, allocated $10 million to the ATF for Project Gunrunner.  The launch of the Project Gunrunner scheme was announced in March of 2009 under orders from Barrack Obama, by the Deputy Attorney General, at a White House press conference.

Stimulus money paid for Project Gunrunner.  Ten million dollars was allocated in the stimulus Porkulus bill to buy semi automatic rifles and revolvers and let Mexican drug lords take them across the border back to Mexico to use them on our Federal agents.

This is an impeachable act that is no less than treason.  This President has provided guns and money to enemies of the United States – namely the Mexican Drug Lords, who have used these very weapons to kill agents of the United States.  The Obama Administration is openly paying for illegal activity in order to manufacture a false premise to enact more gun control legislation.  In a effort to provide a reason to gin up support for taking our guns away, the legislative branch of our government has enabled drug cartels to purchase guns illegally for their own illegal activity.

The Supplemental Appropriations act in June, 2009, allocated an additional $67 million to the ATF for Project Gunrunner which means you can trace the money directly back to Obama.

Then in August, 2010, the Emergency Border Security Supplemental Appropriations Bill of 2010 allocated $37.5 million to the ATF for Project Gunrunner – more money from Obama’s stash.

If you add it up; $10 million in February, $67 million in June, and $37 million in August – that’s $114 million to the ATF specifically for Project Gunrunner that directly funds the Mexican Drug cartels and their arsenal.  All of it in a progressive liberal plan to create a reason for the American people to want more gun control laws and infringe our Second Amendment rights.  Isn’t that fascinating?

Mexican Drug Cartels Re-arm, Obama Complains

With rumors, innuendo, accusations, and Congressional hearings prominent in the headlines over the Project Gunrunner scandal, we now hear that the Mexican Drug Cartels are still finding all of the guns they need to keep themselves well armed and deadly in Mexico.  Only this time, they are getting their guns from Central America.  President Obama is claiming that a “lack of gun control laws is the problem”.

It is illegal for the citizens of Mexico to own or possess guns larger than a .22 but that does not stop the criminals from obtaining all the guns they need.  Since the only guns in Mexico are in the hands of the government or the criminals, Mexican citizens have no way to defend themselves against the drug lords.  More and more citizens are supporting the drug cartels as the healthier way to live among them.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon is blaming the United States and the availability of firearms in this country for the proliferation of guns in the

Some of the weapons siezed from the Drug Cartels

hands of Mexican drug runners and criminals, all while the guns they are purchasing are coming from Central America and not the United States.  The guns they are now getting from south of their border are even more sophisticated than the ones that Obama was able to supply them.  Illegal gun dealers providing their market are able to provide fully automatic weapons (machine guns), rocket propelled grenade launchers (RPG) and even land mines – none of which would be available in the U.S.  The best they got from the U.S. were semi-automatic weapons.

In addition to the heavy arsenal that is now proliferating in Mexico, drug cartels are constructing homemade, armor plated, personnel carriers and tanks with as much as 1” thick steel plating.  Many times these vehicles resemble Civil War-era Ironclads on wheels.  These narco tanks, often called “monstruos” or “monster trucks”, look like a cross between a Somali “technical” and something out of a “Mad Max” movie.  Some of them can do 60 mph and drop, James Bond style, nail popping nails or oil slicks to slow down pursuers.  Again Mexican President Felipe Calderon is blaming the United States for manufacturing pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles that can be made into these bullet impervious vehicles.

Project Gunrunner was a scheme devised by the Obama Administration to allow the Mexican Drug Cartels to purchase guns here in the U.S. against the better judgment of local gun dealers in a hair brained idea that they would be able to track them into the hands of drug dealers south of the border to see where they end up.  Gun dealers here in the U.S. who resisted were pressured by the FBI and BATFE in to allowing the transactions to occur.

However, no tracking was ever achieved under this failed plan, other than the fact that at least one weapon that was used to shoot and kill an agent of the United States has been recovered.  The guns were lost into the bowels of Mexico.  Obama is now trying to blame the U.S. gun dealers and the “lack of gun control laws” for the incident, and as a result, liberals in Congress are now calling for a re-instatement of the “assault weapons ban” of the mid 90s and stricter gun laws for the States that border Mexico.

The idiocy of the Obama administration continues to amaze me as the lengths to which they will go to bring us closer to a socialistic state.  Health care was the first major step into socialism.  Now if they can only get the guns out of the hands of the citizens they will have little problem running roughshod over the country.  Americans need to wake up vote against liberalism at every opportunity.  Whenever you see a candidate on the ballot with “D” after their name, vote for the other guy, whoever it is, and help to save our country.

Update on California AB144

Note:   There is further information on this bill in our article Further Update on AB144

Earlier today AB 144, the bill that would make it illegal to openly carry firearms in California has passed the next hurdle on its way to the senate. In a vote of 4-2 it passed the Senate Public Safety Committee. The bill which is authored by Anthony Portantino (D. – La Cañada) will now be on its way to the Senate Appropriations Committee for fiscal consideration.

Open carry has always been legal in California without a permit. The primary consideration is that the gun must be unloaded. Other conditions are that you may not carry in school zones, post offices, state parks and government buildings. If this bill passes it will make it a misdemeanor to carry a weapon openly anywhere in California, that is punishable with 1 year in jail and/or a $1000 fine.

As we stated in our earlier post California’s AB 144 To Ban Open Carry, this bill will do nothing to take guns from criminals as they don’t care what laws are in place as they don’t follow them. Law abiding citizens will be the ones to take the brunt of this one though and they will now have no way to legally carry protection without a concealed carry permit. And CCW permits are almost impossible to obtain.

Please contact members of the California Senate and voice your opinion on this blatant attack on our Second Amendment rights.  For a complete list of California Senators click here.

California’s AB144 to Ban Open Carry

For more recent news on this legislation see: Update on California AB144

Gun Enthusiasts who live in California are about to lose some more of their freedom if the Legislature is successful with their latest bill to further control guns in the State.  California is currently a ‘may issue’ state that will allow concealed carry of a weapon if the gun owner obtains a concealed carry weapon permit (CCW).  Without a permit, it is against is the law to carry a concealed weapon in public.  However, it is perfectly legal to openly carry a weapon in a holster, not concealed, on one’s person so long as the weapon is not loaded.

State legislators are now attempting to make it illegal to carry a weapon openly, which has always been legal in California.  AB 144, which is unbelievably confusing to try and read, has been authored by Anthony Portantino (D. – La Cañada) is designed to strip us of our second amendment right to bear our arms.  On May 4, 2011, the bill successfully passed in the Democrat controlled Assembly Appropriations Committee.  And now, this morning, I hear that it also passed a vote in the assembly.  This liberal controlled legislature on the ‘left’ coast in California is bent on imposing their liberal agenda on the good citizens of the great state in yet another attempt to ultimately make guns illegal.

Open carrying of firearms has always been legal in California, just like walking down the street.  Carrying a firearm in California does not imply anything criminal.  Firearms are carried for self defense because the police cannot and do not defend you.  They will not be there when you are attacked, but will show up only after you have become a victim. Your safety is your own responsibility.  There is a saying that, “When seconds count; the police are only minutes away”.

At a time when many states are passing less restrictive gun laws, and in some cases legalizing open carry of side arms, California is going the other way and introducing more gun control laws.  Creating a law that criminals do not follow is not stopping gun violence, it is just making more innocent people susceptible to gun violence by those who don’t care about the law in the first place.  Florida is currently in the process of legalizing open carry.  Not California.  Wyoming just became a constitutional carry state.  Not California.

The Brady Bunch is also in on this abdication of personal responsibility and is lobbying to get it passed, or rather, ram it through. This bill seems to be traveling at break neck speed.  Just 12 days after it was passed out of committee, it goes up for a vote in the Assembly and passes.  The same legislature that can’t seem to find the time to put together a reasonable budget for the State, is able to find plenty of time to restrict our rights.

When the author of this bill, Anthony Portantino, learned of the South Bay Open Carry organization meeting at a restaurant in Pasadena (his home base) for dinner (all of whom were openly carrying) he was incensed and said, “I think most people on Main Street California want to go out with their families at dinner and to a movie and not have to worry about a group of folks who are armed at the restaurant or on the street next to them.”  I for one don’t necessarily think it is wise to poke the dog that is attacking you, but the SBOC does this sort of public display to make a statement, and to try to educate people.

Portantino, as most gun control activists, can’t seem to realize that these guns actually make an environment safer.  Perhaps if there had been a few gun toting people at the rally for Gabrielle Giffords, Jared Loughner would not have gone through with his murderous plan.

Gun Enthusiasts are encouraged to contact as many members of the State Senate, individually, as they can to oppose this legislation.

Further Update on Connecticut SB 1094

Good News!  The Connecticut Judiciary Committe had until April 15, (today) to render a decision on whether to advance SB 1094 to the full Senate for debate and vote.  As of today, it was not on the agenda and as a result, it is NOW DEAD.  It has died in committee and will not be going to the floor for a vote on its own.

However, it is always possible that this bill could be attached as a rider to some other must have bill.  Liberals are great for that kind of under handed tactic. They know that Liberal ideas cannot survive on their own in the arena of common sense so they will have to sneak it in somewhere they think we won’t notice.

We will have to keep our eyes open.

Wyoming Is Now a “Constitutional Carry” State

The Governor of the State of Wyoming recently signed a law effectively making the State of Wyoming the fourth state to adopt what is called a “Constitutional Carry” law, which means that citizens are not required to obtain a special, government issued permit or license to carry a concealed weapon.  Governor Matt Mead signed the legislation into law after the state’s House of Representatives passed the bill in a 48-8 vote several weeks ago.

While there have been no significant developments in concealed gun carry laws in most other states, Wyoming now has joined the ranks of three other states who already have constitutional carry laws including, Arizona, Alaska and Vermont.  A few other states, such as California, are actually looking to make their carry laws more restrictive in the wake of the horrific Arizona shooting that killed a Federal Judge and five other people. Gun law extremists miss no opportunity to exploit a terrible tragedy such as that to ramp up and advance their liberal agendas.

However, Colorado and Montana are currently considering similar proposals to Wyoming’s in their state legislatures.  House Bill 1205, currently in Colorado’s legislature has passed the House of Representative in a 40-25 vote.  It has now gone on to the Senate where it has been endorsed by the Senate Judiciary Committee by an 8-3 margin. Colorado’s bill will make it legal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

In Oklahoma, voters have an opportunity to approve an “open carry” law that would allow citizens to carry a weapon whether it is concealed or unconcealed, if they go through an approved state sponsored concealed weapons program.  This bill was unanimously approved by the House Public Safety Committee which put it on a statewide ballot where its future will be decided by the citizenry.

The push to expand permit free gun carry laws is coming from a increasing number of people who are concerned about being able to defend themselves in the face of a growing armed criminal element that would otherwise have an extreme advantage over unarmed citizens. It is driven by law abiding citizens who want the government to stay out of their face as they exercise their fundamental and civil right to own and carry property.  Arms, by the way, are the only enumerated property in the Constitution or Bill of Rights that you are guaranteed the right to possess.

The recent rise of the Tea Party and other constitutional conservatives has fortified a movement to bring “constitutional carry” to other states, giving push back to the sense that many Americans have allowed gun control activists to steadily erode their liberties for many years.  Legislators are recognizing that restrictive gun laws so far enacted have been unsuccessful at reducing violent gun crimes and more often exacerbate the problem.  When faced with statistics that show violent crime rates fell in less restrictive gun law jurisdictions, they realize that taking the guns away from law abiding citizens is not the answer.

In a recent interview, Florida State Senator, Greg Evers (R-Dist.2) stated, “I’ll feel safer around a law-abiding person openly carrying a firearm because criminals will stay away.  Criminals do commit crimes”, he said, “but they’re not all stupid: most criminals will avoid armed citizens because they don’t want to be shot.”

People who neglect the exercise of their constitutional rights, may soon find those rights have been usurped by the State.  First Arizona and now in Wyoming, the people are pushing back.

Our Second Amendment Rights May Be In Jeopardy

Liberal Incrementalism Creeps Into Our Lives

As a Gun Enthusiast, it’s hard to imagine this country ever actually becoming a socialistic state, living in this great country that we do, but I sometimes wonder how far we will allow our elected officials to go.  It just seems that we may take our Freedom, or what we call Freedom, way too much for granted, the way we keep giving it up more and more.  Take, for example, what we have allowed to happen to smokers, and compare that with what is now going on with the new calls for more gun legislation.  Now, I am not a smoker, do not like smoking, and do not like being around someone who is smoking, but just the same, we have all but made it illegal to smoke in America.  Also, I recognize that smoking is not a right granted to us by God or the Constitution as is our right to own a gun.  It is merely a choice, freely made every day, by millions of people in America.  But let’s review the smoking issue for a minute.

Originally, many people in this country enjoyed smoking, unaware of the health risks.  I grew up in a home where both of my parents smoked quite a bit, with no ill effects, although, one of my brothers did suffer from asthma as a child.  As the health risks became better known, we began to look down on smoking to the point that the government started placing warning labels on cigarette packages.  Finally, in the 90’s the first of the laws was passed banning smoking in restaurants.  Government officials knew that it would not be possible to outlaw smoking all together, so they started with a small restriction to which most people could agree.  Gradually, and incrementally, more and more laws and restrictions were passed banning smoking in bars, and public buildings, as we became more complacent about giving up just a little bit more of our liberty.  After all, it was for our own good.

Now more recently the City of L.A. enacted a law that bans smoking even at outdoor dining establishments.  One would think that if you were outdoors it would be alright to light up.  But the mayor of L.A. explained that, “L.A. and California have always led the way when it comes to anti-smoking”.  He just as well could have said that L.A. and California have always led the way in limiting our Freedoms.  Last month, the city of Laguna Beach, CA banned smoking on residential patios – one’s own home – outside no less.  The slippery slope gets steeper and steeper.  The more success liberals have, the more outrageous the ideas they produce to further restrict our liberties.

But this not so much about smoking as it about the attempts to remove our rights as gun owners.  The techniques described in restricting smoking, are the same techniques they are using to legislate against law abiding gun owners, with the ultimate goal of banning guns outright.

This is supposed be America where we are Free.  People from all over the world are clamoring to come this country to experience Liberty, which we all seem to take for granted.  Freedom is the one thing of which we are most proud.  Yet we continually allow liberal factions of our country to chip away at those freedoms, taking them away, incrementally, one at a time, under the guise of compassion or enlightened thinking.  And they have a more than willing accomplice in the main stream media to help them, who will pick up a story on the latest complaint du joir, and popularize it through emotional news stories that are designed to make you feel like you are not ‘with it’ or not compassionate if you don’t agree with the story.

Now in the wake of the Arizona shooting that critically wounded a United States Representative, and killed six others including a Federal judge and nine year old child, the liberals and the media have resumed the chant for more gun control and restrictions on the size of magazines.  But here again, if we allow these types of legislation to be passed, we will be giving up some more of our Freedom.  Only this time they are attacking a right given to us by our Founding Fathers and guaranteed us by the Constitution.  Granted, the Constitution says nothing about the size of magazines our guns can have, but it is implicit that our right to bear these arms is for us to be able to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government.  If that tyranny ever comes at us with machine guns, how effective will we be with six shooters, or even ten rounds?

To many liberals, the Constitution is merely an obstacle to them – it gets in their way of imposing their will on the rest of us.  Thank God it is in their way, but make no mistake, if ever they think they can side step the Constitution, they will try it.

He Would If He Could and Will If He Can

This administration is already trying to side step the Constitution with executive orders, and decisions to outright ignore enacted laws, simply because they feel it is ‘unconstitutional’.   Excuse me, but isn’t that up to the Judicial branch to decide.  How unconstitutional is that?

So the drum beat continues.  And it is especially loud now as the anti-gun extremists seek to exploit the Arizona tragedy to resurrect and advance their political agendas.  Today, it is smaller gun magazines.  Tomorrow it could be ballistic fingerprints, or licensing gun owners, or banning mail-order ammunition sales (the latter has already been tried in California), all the way out to banning guns altogether.  The ‘enlightened ones’ won’t be happy until their ultimate goal is achieved.  In the mean time, they will incrementally chip away at our freedom with what seem to be small, innocuous regulations and restrictions that they hope nobody will notice.  Already we have a ten day wait period and ten round maximum in California.  They have a whole wish list of them already prepared and they’ll simply pick the next one on the list.

We all knew that when they banned smoking in restaurants, that bars would be next, then public buildings, then all workplaces.  We scoffed at the idea that they would eventually ban smoking at home, but even that has happened in Laguna.  They have a plan mapped out for gun control and think we won’t notice the little attacks if they make you think that it’s for your own good.  However, unlike smoking, banning guns is not for our own good.  It only works to make us less safe.

In every jurisdiction that has less restrictive personal carry laws, violent crime is down.  Take the guns away from law abiding citizens, and the crime goes up.  When criminals don’t need to fear the possibility of being shot themselves, they are freer to commit crime, and do so.  As it is now, U.S. gun owners use firearms for protection as frequently as 2.5 million times a year.  While it’s impossible to know how many lives it saved out of those incidents, it still equates to a lot of innocent lives saved because a gun was in the right place at the right time.

An earlier Federal ban on assault rifles and large gun magazines that expired in 2004 was an abject failure.  Additionally, a congressionally mandated study released in March 1997 found that the banned weapons and magazines “were never involved in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders.”  The study also “failed to produce any evidence that the ban reduced the number of victims per gun homicide incident” and found that “the average number of gunshot wounds per victim (about two) did not decrease” after the ban.

Liberal incrementalism is a slippery slope that keeps us sliding away from Freedom as a way of life.  It is incumbent upon us all to be aware of our shrinking Liberties and fight to maintain them.  If ever we allow ourselves to lose the right to keep and bear arms, we will no longer be Free.
